Great balcony view, reasonable Japanese restaurant, helpful and polite staff, decent breakfast, walking distance to slopes and restaurants, on-site onsen.
Nothing. It was perfect.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Hakuba Luna Hotel. Its best feature is its proximity to the ski slopes - just across the road from one of the main ski lifts - and most of the resort buses stop outside too. The room was clean and comfortable, though really very small - there was no room for us to open our suitcases other than on the bed itself (though the bed was huge). It was (relatively) reasonably priced. The restaurant was pretty good for dinner - whilst a limited menu, the pizzas and pasta were nice and it was pretty lively. However, breakfast was poor, when compared to other similar hotels. The staff were generally friendly and helpful.
First, the hotel has no onsen. We have stayed in Hakuba twice before, both times in similarly priced hotels, both of which had on-site onsens, and this makes a huge difference after a day's skiing. The hotel puts on an 'onsen shuttle', supposedly so you can try a different onsen each night, but this is not the same - you have to go at the given time (generally before we were back from skiing) and it is an expensive way to go for an onsen each day. You can't match the convenience of an on-site onsen. Secondly, the hotel puts on no restaurant shuttle in the evenings. Again, both hotels we stayed in previously in Hakuba provided this free service, which is very helpful. Thirdly, breakfast was really quite poor - again, particularly when compared to other similar hotels we stayed in in Hakuba previously. The selection was very small and the same each day. Other hotels provide a variety each day (even if small). Finally, we found it very disappointing that the owner demanded payment by credit card on the second day of our stay. We booked through Booked.net (and secured the booking through a 20% deposit). Most hotels charge on check-out, but the owner demanded that we pay on the 2nd day (once she had sent us the invoice). She stopped us leaving for skiing that day until we had paid, meaning we very nearly missed the resort bus. As paypal was down when we tried to pay, she also insisted we pay immediately on credit card, meaning we incurred an additional 5% charge. Some additional items had also been added to the bill too, which had to be queried and removed. This did not leave a good impression unfortunately.

We loved our stay at this hotel. The location was perfect with easy access to the ski lift and shuttle buses to the village. The hotel facilities were top-notch including indoor and outdoor onsen and a great Japanese restaurant. The staff were polite and attentive, making us feel valued during our entire stay. Finally, the cleanliness was impeccable, making us feel very comfortable throughout our trip.
Everything was spot on.

The hotel staffs are very helpful and the sense of family style hotel is evident here. The location is also great being so close to a Happo One entry point.
We had a bad experience due to the failure of our room heating system but Miles, the manager, quickly corrected the problem by lending us his own portable heater. We hope they can upgrade the heaters next time around though.

Hakuba Luna Hotel is clean, comfortable, convenient and reasonably priced. Facilities and furnishings are clean and up to date. Rooms are fair size for Japan. Beds are comfortable. Hotel is located just across from the base of the ski lifts - easy walk. On site restaurant/bar serving western/Italian food is convenient for breakfast and dinner. Great food for quite reasonable price in Japan. On-site recreation room with games and extensive DVD collection keeps the kids occupied and happy. Staff is friendly and English speaking, mostly Australian. Atmosphere is casual but still professional. Met a lot of nice people staying there. All translates to great value for money and nice winter getaway in Japan.

I recently stayed at this luxurious 4-star hotel in Nagano and had a truly fabulous experience. The hotel is perfectly located in the Happoone area, making it convenient for skiing activities. The friendly staff provided exceptional service, always attentive and polite. One highlight of my stay was the indulgent Onsen bathing experience, which left me feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. The buffet breakfast offered a wide variety of delicious options, and the free wifi availability was a bonus for my niece who was traveling with us. The Premier Grand floor upgrade was worth the extra cost as it provided access to the exclusive lounge, where we were treated like royalty. The room and amenities were top-notch, and the provided phone with local and international calls and data was incredibly useful. The club lounge offered a delightful afternoon tea session with tasty canapés and refreshing drinks, all topped off with breathtaking views of the city. I had a fantastic stay and can't wait to come back here in the future.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a luxurious and comfortable stay.

The hotel is well located and it has many services such as a shuttle bus to the bus station and to the sky resorts, both very useful, particularly if you do not speak japanese and are new to the area
The reception was not well heated.

Great location in the mountains for a weekend of skiing. The breakfast had a good variety of Japanese and western food. The video projector in the room was a nice touch after a long day of skiing.
The rooms were small, making it difficult to store our ski gear. The onsen wasn't up to our standards, it didn't feel like a genuine onsen experience.

During my Christmas stay, I enjoyed the great breakfast options that included both European and Asian cuisine. the staff was very helpful in assisting with organizing trips and ski tickets. the hotel had good facilities, with ski buses readily available at the door. the location of the hotel was also very convenient as it was centrally located.
The rooms felt dated and could use some updating. the restaurants were expensive compared to other options in town.

Language may be a barrier for some guests when communicating with the staff.
